Umsobomvu Youth Fund in South Africa:

They focus on empowering the youth by funding essential business services through a Voucher Management System. Our inTouch Africa® Voucher Management System was specifically developed for Umsobomvu and was deployed in 17 UYF centres in South Africa.

The RED Door Centres (Real Enterprise Development) was an initiative of the Provincial Government of the Western Cape in South Africa:

A network of 14 RED Door Centres had been established over a period of 3 years in the Western Cape. These one-stop information, advice and service centres were easy-to-access one-stop-shop hubs which supports enterprises and potential enterprises. They were ‘powered’ by our inTouch Africa® System.

The Botswana Technology Centre (BOTEC) deployed inTouch Africa® to provide an integrated solution for the Community User Information System (CUIS) project.

This project provided three villages in Botswana namely Letlhakeng in Kweneng West, Hukuntsi in Kgalagadi and Gumare in West Ngamiland with information centers, linked to a Central Information Server (CIS) located in Gaborone, Botswana. CUIS was a pilot information communication system aimed at enabling rural and remote area communities to gain access to integrated on-line information on services provided by government ministries and departments, non-governmental organizations and the private sector. These centres were partially ‘powered’ by our inTouch Africa® System.

Namibia Department of Education:

inTouch Africa® was deployed as a MIS system for this department’s Community Learning and Development Centres (CLDCs). This project covered 2 Centres initially.

Technology for Women in Business (TWIB):

About 25 young women were assisted through a “New Venture Creation Learnership” and supported to start their own social enterprises.

Collaboration @ Rural - Sekhukhune Rural Living Lab:

10 Young people were deployed as Infopreneurs in the Sekhukhune District of the Limpopo province. These Infopreneurs were ‘married’ with a ‘family’ of research and technology development institutions in South Africa (CSIR CIS and SAP Research SA) and Europe (SAP Research Germany and other European project partners) to develop an open-innovation environment where the Infopreneurs participated in the definition, testing and usage of new technologies as well as new business models to enhance the development of rural areas in developing economies.

San Martin SMME Incubator and Business Development Services:

The MIPEs (Micro y Pequeñas Empresas) Business Incubator in San Martin was established in March 2002 as a joint venture between the Municipio de Gral. San Martin, CISP (Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli) and UNSAM (Universidad Nacional de San Martín). The main objective of the Incubator is to grow certain sectors of the industry by establishing and incubating small and micro enterprises in those sectors. inTouch Africa® was translated into Spanish and deployed as a MIS and process support system.

W.K. Kellog Foundation: inTouch Africa and Infopreneur Development in South Africa

Kellogg Foundation funding was a key instrument that enabled us and supported our development of both the systems and deployment models in our work at the base of the pyramid (BoP). The final support from the Foundation enabled us to do extensive validation of our approach in the Limpopo province of South Africa from April 2008 to Nov 2009.

SA Department of Science and Technology: National Indigenous Knowledge Management System

The Department utilised the Infopreneur networks in several rural contexts (Vhembe District, Namakwa District and Ruth Mompathi District) to catalogue and harvest indigenous knowledge still in existence in rural context. This initiative allowed us to further enhance the model and strengthen the sustainability of this “extension extender network” in rural contexts.

CepAgri Emerging Agriculture Support Network:

The CepAgri (Centro de Promocao da Agricultura) network was established in 2006 to strengthen consultative mechanisms with the Private Sector; Conducting Economic Analysis to Sustain Political Decisions and Guide Investments in Strategic Areas; Identification and Distribution of Investment Opportunities and Good Agribusiness Practices and the Promotion of the Development of Programs and Services to Support the Private Sector in Mozambique Agriculture. The main objective of the network was to grow the emerging agricultural sector of the industry by establishing and incubating small and micro enterprises in those sectors. inTouch Africa® was translated into Portuguese and deployed as a MIS and process support system.
